Building dams for hydroelectric plants also often displaces people and while operating a hydroelectric plant is safe, building one is a dangerous task. In fact, more than 100 people died building Hoover Dam. Aside from that, communities near a dam could be flooded if a dam collapses like what happened in China in 1975 where Banqiao Dam failed and the resulting flood caused the death of more than 171,000 people. However, present construction methods are significantly better compared to those used in the past.
Overall, hydroelectric power is an excellent alternative to fossil-fuel-powered electric plants.
Wind Power
