All The Basics to Know About Axial Control Valve
Axial control valve is a high-performance design that is found in many valving solutions. This type of valves are used primarily in specialised applications where there is demand for high capacity flow, accurate regulation from a linear motion closure member and minimised vibrational and turbulence effects.
Dutco Tennant LLC is a leading supplier company that deals in axial control valves as well. It supplies high-performance axial control valves for potable water systems and other industrial projects. Dutco Tennant will be showcasing its axial control valve along with other valve ranges at this year’s WETEX 2022. The three-day event which will begin from 27th September has a line-up of industry experts where visitors can explore, meet and interact to gain value adding insights.
If you are interested in catching this type of valve solution live at product demo then make sure to visit the Dutco Tennant exhibit. Read this article till the end to learn more about axial control valves.
What are the Uses of Axial Flow Valves?
Apart from using them for flow control, axial type valves are also used as shut-off valves because of their rapid response. They also serve the purpose of surge relief valves.
In some applications, the axial flow valve is also used as a choke valve where it performs the function of controlling flow rate and reducing pressure for the processing of produced fluids farther down the stream.
Key Characteristics of Axial Flow Valve
Axial flow valves deliver precise control over pressure, flow and temperature of fluids and come in unlimited choice of openings depending on the supplier. Some of the key characteristics found in axial flow valve are –
- Small and compact design making them a flexible valving solution to be installed even in limited space applications.
- Provides full opening and shutting at full differential pressure.
- Bubble tight sealing prevents the scope for leaks in the system.
- Pressure balanced piston needing a small actuator.
- Reduced noise level compared to conventional valve types.
- Bi-directional
- Horizontal or vertical orientation without the need for modification.
- Fast stroke performance.
How does an Axial Flow Valve Work?
The axial flow valve operates to be at an open position as the valve piston is pushed out the cage holes area and complete flow is attained. As the axial flow valve is known for its controlling the flow performance, this is done by moving the piston and some of the cage holes shuts and therefore regulating the flow.
Finally for the closed position, after the quarter turn of the stem, the piston works to obstruct all of the cage holes resulting in the closing and sealing of the valve. As the piston pressure is balanced either on its left or right side, a small actuator is needed for proper operations.
The Importance of Control Valve Testing
Since the axial control valves are known for maintaining highly reliable and precise control over process variables, this type of valve goes through certain key testing standards. This type of valve offers to have unrivalled performance when it comes to attaining optimised balance of key regulating performance factors that includes – high pressure let down, high capacity, rangeability, etc.
Mechanical and seal testing are pretty standard testing conducted for this type of valve. The axial control valve is also subjected to more testing in accordance with IEC 60534. This test program is targeted for prediction of performance in service, specifically with regards to noise generation and flow capacity.
By conducting extensive testing and acquiring detailed performance data, the axial control valves are then accurately sized as per the application for which they are manufactured.
Axial Control Valve & Its Control Seal Benefits
Axial control valves have a rotating stem that delivers less friction with the help of a smaller/standard actuator. It also avoids fugitive emissions and fast stroking. A high-quality axial control valve also has an advanced body design with a bonnet that allows for rapid fabrication, in-line maintenance and top/ side entry.
It offers bubble tight dual sealing performance and that too at a competitive price range.
Offers Anti-Surge Execution
Axial control valve also offers special execution performance for heavy-duty service. It combines the proven flow control technology with trusted fast stroking actuation.
Axial control valve is offered by a rapid acting pneumatic spring return actuator that can reach less than 1.5 second function times resulting in fast and precise control.
